Choosing a contractor

When it comes to choosing a company it is always hard to know if you have chosen the right one.

Recommendation is always best but if you don’t have that option following a few simple rules can help you find the right company for you.

  • Makes sure the company has a UK registered company number.
  • Make sure the company has a land line telephone number and address listed, then you can get hold of them.
  • Never go with a company that knocks on your door as they are looking for work.
  • Chose a company that already has work booked in, it shows that their customers are prepared to wait. If a company can start straight away think why?
  • Ask to see some work they have done in the local area, this way you can see for yourself the quality of their work.
  • If a company can give you a price on the spot without measuring out and assessing properly what needs to be done it may mean you have been over charged or on completion you may have lots of extras to pay.
  • If a company asks to be paid in cash only avoid them.
  • Always get 3 or more quotes.
  • Never pay a deposit before the works start. Payments should be made in instalments as the works progress.
  • Always ask for an invoice, it will show you have paid in full and also be the start of any guarantees that are given.
  • Make sure the company has public liability.

Once your lawn has been laid you should water it every night for 2-3 weeks. Do not walk on it while you are watering as it will become boggy. Continue to water even if it rains.

You should continue to water the lawn 2-3 times a week.

Lawn should be cut on a weekly basis. Do not let it grow too long as this will restrict sun light getting to the roots causing grass to grow stringy.

Do not put any treatment on your new lawn for the first 3 months. After 3 months treatment can be put on your lawn at the correct time. Weed and feed, moss killer ect will help keep your lawn healthy.
